BBC News: Russia's defence ministry says it has thwarted a Ukrainian drone attack after it downed two drones over the Moscow region. Two other drones were intercepted over the Bryansk region, north-east of the Ukrainian border. Flights were temporarily stopped to and from Moscow's airports early on Tuesday.
AFP: Russia's defence ministry says early Tuesday one of its Sukhoi jets "destroyed" a Ukrainian "reconnaissance boat" in the Black Sea.
POLITICO: Josep Borrell, the EU’s foreign policy chief, is eyeing a ministerial-level meeting in late September to discuss peace in Ukraine.
ISW: Russian milbloggers continue to indicate that Russian forces lack equipment and suffer from low morale along the entire frontline.
UK Ministry of Defence: On 19 August 2023, a Tu-22M3 BACKFIRE medium bomber of Russia’s Long Range Aviation was highly likely destroyed at Soltsky-2 Airbase in Novgorod Oblast, 650 km away from Ukraine’s border. This adds weight to the assessment that some UAV attacks against Russian military targets are being launched from inside Russian territory. Copter UAVs are unlikely to have the range to reach Soltsky-2 from outside Russia.
AP News: Russia and China will look to gain more political and economic ground in the developing world at a summit in South Africa this week, when an expected joint dose of anti-West grumbling from them may take on a sharper edge with a formal move to bring Saudi Arabia closer.

The Kyiv Independent: Ukraine’s military has advanced southeast of Robotyne and south of Mala Tokmachka in Zaporizhzhia Oblast, Deputy Defense Minister Hanna Maliar reported on Aug. 21. “The enemy tried to regain lost positions east of Robotyne, but unsuccessfully,” Maliar said on Telegram.
